Creation Station
Your family will enjoy being creative at
the Brooks when they drop into Creation Station. Tour a special exhibit
or the permanent collection with an interactive family guide and then
make your own artwork in the studio. Families are given a packet of
projects and activities to do at home so that they can continue the fun.
Free with museum admission.
Wacky Wednesday
Museum admission and all activities are free, so the whole community can
experience the creativity and inspiration of both the visual arts and
film. Sponsored by Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
Every Wednesday in June and July, come get wacky at the Brooks!
Children of all ages and their adult friends can drop into our Open
Artworks Studio and create a variety of projects using many different
materials. They can also watch a multitude of films made just for kids.
Free coffee, coupons, and more will be provided by Community Coffee on June 22nd, 2011.
Family Guides
Free interactive family guides, which include activities for families to
complete both in the gallery and later at home, are created in
conjunction with special exhibitions as well as for the permanent
collection. Inside these guides families will find questions for guided
looking, information on artists and artwork, and suggestions for further
exploration. Guides are available at the Admissions desk and in the
special exhibition galleries. Click here to see our visitor tips for families.
Kids Can Film Festival
Free with museum admission and always free for children 6 and under. A small fee for popcorn and drinks. Come beat the summer heat and spend
an afternoon at the Kids Can Film Festival. Featuring films
for a wide
range of ages, kids and their adult friends will enjoy both
animated and
live-action short films made just for them. Kids will be
thrilled to
walk the red carpet and have their picture taken before the
films get
rolling. And afterward, don’t miss the chance to make your
own ice cream
sundae.
Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a special holiday celebrated
annually in Mexico and parts of the United States honoring deceased
loved ones. In this biennial event, families are invited to honor
ancestors and celebrate the cycle of life and death through gallery
talks, films, hands-on art activities, music, dance, and theatrical
performances, and place an offering on our communal altar. Admission is
free.
