Tours are designed to present a rich visual arts experience, increase students' perceptual and critical thinking skills, engage students in active looking and discussions, and enrich the school curricula.
The Brooks is pleased to offer free tours to home school students and their families. On selected days throughout the school year, the museum’s trained volunteer docents provide thematic tours of the Brooks’ permanent collection and special exhibitions.
Home School at the Brooks is geared towards students age 6-12. However, registrations are welcome for students age 4-18. In addition to a docent-led tour, students age 6-18 participate in a hands-on art making activity that complements the content of the tour. While the older students are on tour and in the studio, pre-school age participants (and their parents) enjoy a variety of gallery activities lead by one of our docents.
All sessions last approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

Materials and Meaning
Throughout history, artists have innovatively used materials in expressing their ideas and beliefs, and in making objects for a variety of uses. Discover how geography, values, needs, media, and technology affect the creation of works of art in different times and places.
Thursday, May 17 at 10:30 am and 1 pm
Portraits
Artistic portraits were used to record family members throughout generations, celebrate the noble and courageous, or to admire the beauty of a woman. Participants will explore the artistic devices used by artists to “decode” portraits on view.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations should be made at least 72 hours in advance so the Education staff has time to notify those on our waiting lists. Any registered participants who do not give notice of cancellation will forfeit the right to attend all future home school sessions for the remainder of the school year.
