Girls ages 13 to 16 explore portraiture through digital photography
In Focus is a collaboration between the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and Girls
Incorporated of Memphis.
Working with Tomi Durgin, Assistant Curator of Education, girls ages 13 to 16 explore portraiture through
digital photography. For twelve weeks, participants visit the museum weekly to view photographs
and portraiture in other media from the museum’s permanent collection, and take
photos both in the museum and out in the community. The girls are instructed in
the use of digital cameras, learn to create
portraits and self-portraits, and use journals to record their thoughts and
feelings about their artwork. In Focus culminates in a group exhibition of
participant artwork and writing on display in the
Education Gallery.
The 2009 In Focus program was generously sponsored by The Academy Place Foundation.
