ArtsMemphis

Known around the world for its blues and rock and roll, Memphis has a recognizable, special vibe. ArtsMemphis exists to nurture this unique character and to magnify the city’s creative voice.

ArtsMemphis is a 48-year-old fundraising and grant making organization that supports arts organizations, arts education and outreach efforts and leads a community-wide Audience Development Initiative to promote engagement in the arts. Its mission is raising funds to ensure excellence in the arts and build a vibrant cultural community for everyone. As grant makers and advocates for the arts in the city, ArtsMemphis awarded $2.8 million to the Memphis arts community in FY11 through eight grant categories.

More than 95% of every dollar raised in the annual campaign is reinvested in the community, helping ArtsMemphis achieve these outcomes: contributing to making Memphis a City of Choice; making the arts accessible to the underserved; exposing individuals and families to the arts; and enabling funded groups to focus on improving the quality of their art form. Recognizing that a lively arts scene has a major economic impact and is essential to the quality of life in Memphis, ArtsMemphis hosts a comprehensive cultural calendar on artsmemphis.org and has a free App (downloadable from iTunes) with arts event listings for residents and visitors.

Tennessee Arts Commission

Through its variety of programs, the Tennessee Arts Commission encourages excellence in artistic expression through the state's artists and arts organizations.

When the Tennessee Arts Commission was created in 1967, it was given a special mandate by the General Assembly to stimulate and encourage the presentation of performing, visual and literary arts throughout the state and to encourage public interest in the cultural heritage of Tennessee. That commitment has continued to expand through the years to ensure that the citizens of Tennessee have access to, and the opportunity to participate in the arts.

The Tennessee Arts Commission builds better communities by:

  • Investing public dollars in Tennessee's nonprofit arts industry.
  • Providing services to citizens, artists and arts organizations.
  • Undertaking initiatives that enhance Tennessee's cultural life.

These activities give Tennessee citizens a better quality of life, provide our children with a more complete education and attract tourists to our state.
